The Newfoundland and Labrador College of Physiotherapists (NLCP) is a self-regulated and self-supported professional body that regulates the practice of physiotherapy in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador. The college receives its regulatory authority from provincial legislation called “The Physiotherapists Act”. All physiotherapists practicing in the province are required to register with the college each year and abide by the standards of practice set out and enforced by the NLCP. The council members and committees are volunteers who are dedicated to ensuring protection of the public in the provision of physiotherapy services.
Physiotherapy is the health care profession dedicated to improving and restoring mobility through prevention and treatment of injury and movement problems. Physiotherapists have advanced knowledge of how the body moves, what keeps it moving and how to regain lost mobility.
Physiotherapists work with individuals of all ages to assess, diagnose, and treat a variety of conditions including musculoskeletal, neurological, and cardio-respiratory problems.
Physiotherapists have an important role in health promotion and disease prevention. Physiotherapists work in many settings including acute care, rehabilitation, community care, long-term care and private practice.
Physiotherapy treatment may include education, exercise prescription, manual therapy and modality use.
